Community Classes

Communities need to be prepared for both natural and man-made emergencies. Additionally, as hazardous materials and hazardous wastes become more and more commonplace, accumulating in our earth, air, and water, it is vitally important that citizens are well-informed about the challenges posed by these substances.

Our community classes educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as first aid, fire safety, light search and rescue, and team organization. Concerned community members willing to take the time to learn more about such issues can help protect their own health and contribute to their neighborhoods.

The Midwest Consortium (MWC) developed this introduction to health and safety considerations for volunteers who will be traveling to a disaster to assist the local community in clean-up. Also available in Spanish.

When completed, participants will be better able to:

  • Identify what you need to know before you depart
