16–Hr Incident Command Management
Target Population: Emergency responders who will exercise command and control of an emergency response incident
Overall Learning Objectives:
• Identify types of emergencies and their characteristics.
• Identify potential emergencies at work sites.
• Understand legal requirements for emergency response.
• Understand best practices for the Incident Management System and constraints.
• Understand context of your team within local, state, and federal teams.
• Describe function of various team elements and training required.
• Identify complete and incomplete elements in an emergency response plan.
• Identify approaches to improve plan/resources.
• Access electronic information resource(s).
• Identify correct and incorrect actions during a response.
• Identify the post-emergency actions needed.
24-Hr Operations Level Emergency Responder Training
Targeted for members of emergency response team which may have to respond offensively to an incident involving the release of hazardous materials.
Overall Learning Objectives:
• Describe the risks of hazardous materials.
• Understand the possible outcomes of an emergency.
• Learn ways to recognize hazardous materials.
• Understand your role as an operations-level responder.
• Perform basic hazard and risk assessment techniques.
• Select and use proper protective equipment provided.
• Know basic hazardous material terms.
• Perform basic control, containment, and confinement procedures.
• Perform basic decontamination procedures.
• Implement standard operating procedures and incident termination.
• Size up a scene.
• Work within the system set up for response actions.
• Use personal protective equipment.
• Perform certain basic response actions.
NOTE: All participants in the 24-Hour Emergency Responder Training are required to have a physician complete a medical evaluation and clearance form prior to the course.
40–Hr Emergency Responder Technician Level
Targeted for individuals who are or who anticipate defensively responding to chemical emergencies.
Overall Learning Objectives:
• Motivating workers to use safe work practices.
• Investigating accidents. Monitoring for hazardous conditions.
• Site control.
• Personal protective equipment.
• Handling the media.
• OSHA inspections.
• Safety and health plans.
• Synthesize information for problem-solving.
• Assess critical behaviors.
NOTE: All participants in the 40-Hour Emergency Responder Training are required to have a physician complete a medical evaluation and clearance form prior to the course.
